The League for the Hard of Hearing Appoints Jeffrey M. Cohen as President of the Board of Directors
New York, NY, May 6, 2008 – The League for the Hard of Hearing, a leading private, non-profit rehabilitation center for seniors, adults, children and infants with hearing loss, appointed Jeffrey M. Cohen to serve as President of the Board of Directors. As President, Cohen will guide the organization in achieving its mission to improve the quality of life for all persons who have a hearing loss.
Joseph R. LaBato, the League’s immediate Past President, said, “The League is the premier agency in the tri-state area for people with hearing loss, and, with Jeff as President, I am confident it is well-poised to enter its second century of continuous hearing health service of the highest quality.” League Executive Director Laurie Hanin stated, “As we approach our centennial, in partnership with Jeff and the entire Board of Directors, I look forward to increasing the League’s clinical programs and public education efforts. With 31 million Americans affected by hearing loss today, the need for our work is greater than ever.”
Cohen brings 20 years of management and sales/marketing experience to this volunteer position. He currently serves as Head of Sales at Advisen Ltd. Cohen first became aware of the League’s talents in 1997 when his twins were diagnosed with hearing losses. The League provided his family with all the audiology support and clinical services required. Today, the twins are in sixth grade at a mainstream school in Manhattan, and they hear and speak just like ordinary pre-teens. Cohen joined the Board of Directors in October, 2000, and added, “The dedicated staff at the League has served so many families like mine, and it is the intent of the Board to insure that the League’s efforts are expanded to assist as many area families impacted by hearing loss as possible.”
